Q&S Stops Law-Defying Husband Charged With Murder
Type of Case: Deceased Estate Administration
The Situation: Mrs Piper died in tragic circumstances. Her husband was charged with her murder. Her will left her entire estate to her husband. The law prevents a murderer from receiving any benefit under a person’s will, but that depends on the person being first convicted of the murder; and it takes a long time for a murder trial to happen. Mr and Mrs Piper owned (in both their names) a mobile home in a retirement village. Mr Piper conspired with the manager of the retirement village to have the mobile home sold, before Mr Piper’s murder trial, and to pay 100% of the proceeds of sale to Mr Piper. Quinn & Scattini acted on a deferred-fee basis.
The Result: Success. Quinn & Scattini stepped in, on behalf of Mrs Piper’s children, and made sure that half of the proceeds of sale were paid to Mrs Piper’s children.
